Students begin their study in the foundation courses in two- and three-dimensional design and drawing. While courses in all studio areas are required, upper level electives allow for greater focus in a single area. Elective credits are available in photography, graphic design, ceramics, printmaking and art history. Knowledge of art history is seen as necessary to intelligent studio development, as is an understanding of the attitudes, philosophies and language of the contemporary art world.
