
Ball State's Department of Art (College of Fine Arts) offers graduate study leading to the Master of Fine Arts which is a terminal degree in art studio, currently offered with a specialization in Glass. Students can pursue graduate level artistic production in a range of glass techniques including hot, cold, and warm processes.

Degree Overview: The program can be completed in six semesters (two years) and will require 60 credit hours of course work comprised of 18 credit hours of graduate level art history, topical colloquiums and seminars, and a thesis preparation course, 9 credits of studio electives, 27 credits of studio specialization courses and 6 credits of graduate thesis (creative project)
At the end of the first year (completion of non-thesis coursework) art graduate students may either complete a thesis and earn the Master of Arts degree, or apply to the Department Graduate Committee to continue their studies and earn the Master of Fine Arts terminal degree. All students must pass a review at the end of their first year to enroll in MFA level courses in the second year.

Applicants for the MA or MFA degree programs in art at Ball State must meet the admission requirements of the university's Graduate School and then be formally admitted by the Department of Art. To be considered for an assistantship, students must submit their application in March (last business day) for the following academic year.
Students applying for admission to the graduate program must have an undergraduate degree in art and a grade point average in art courses of at least 2.75 on a 4.0 scale, and they must pass a review by the Department of Art's graduate committee. The department has no admission quotas by race, gender, state of residence, or expressed discipline preference.
Interested students must submit an application for admission to the Graduate School, bachelor's degree in Art from an accredited college or university with at least a 2.75 gpa on a 4.0 scale or have a 3.0 gpa in the last two years of study, and provide the following items to the Department of Art:
- Score in the 35th percentile on the verbal section of the GRE
- Letter expressing goals in pursuing the degree
- Current resume
- Transcripts for all college-level course work
- Portfolio of artwork in CD format
- Three letters of recommendation
- Supportive material such as research and publications
