Ball State University's interior design program prepares you for exciting professional careers in a variety of settings. From our socially responsible curriculum focusing on universal design (design that is accessible to all people) and green design (environmentally friendly) principles to our state-of-the-art technology, Ball State's interior design program is committed to staying in touch with this evolving field. The curriculum is designed to provide experience in the range of concepts, theories, knowledge, and practices required by the profession.

  • Designation: Bachelor of Arts (BA) or Bachelor of Science (BS) in Family and Consumer Sciences (Interior Design)

NOTE: Majors in interior design must receive a grade of C or better in all courses required on the interior design option in order to complete the degree.

Career Opportunities

Ball State's program is respected in the fashion industry. Students in the undergraduate program have interned at major design houses like Michael Kors, Donna Karan, Betsey Johnson, and Kate Spade. The interior design option prepares students for entry level positions in a variety of firms and organizations such as entertainment design, facilities management, government / institutional design, health care facility design, hospitality design, store planning and residential design.

Admission Requirements & Selection

Ball State's Interior Design program admits students who have excelled in scholarship and who show promise of a high level of achievement in the program. You must be accepted to Ball State through the Admission office before you can be considered for admission into the Interior Design Program. To be considered for admission to the interior design program, you must complete and submit. Admission to this program is highly competitive, so students are strongly encouraged to apply early.

Successful candidates are those who demonstrate the following:

  • Excellence in academic scholarship as documented by GPA, SAT, ACT scores and Portfolio.
  • Initiative, leadership experience and interest in the interior design disciplines
  • Strong communication skills as demonstrated in the required application essay and personal interview.
  • Submission of Portfolio.
  • Documents Required for Admission and Deadlines including the Interior Design Application.
