In the graphic arts management program, you will gain a broad technical knowledge of graphic arts and hands-on experience with modern printing processes and equipment. Your degree will prepare you with the technical and managerial skills you need for a professional career in the dynamic and diverse graphic arts and printing industry.

Degree Overview: You will learn about all aspects of printing and have opportunities to use some of the same printing equipment used in the industry. Your classes will cover topics like:

  • Commercial printing and publishing
  • Printing materials and equipment
  • Computer applications for creative and managerial functions
  • Quality control and production control systems
  • Prepress, estimating, and printing management

You'll also complete a required minor in business administration to gain the supervision and management skills you'll need to advance to senior-level positions.

The mission of the Graphic Arts Management Program at Ball State University is to prepare individuals for technical and management oriented careers in the dynamic field of graphic communications.

Program at a Glance
  • Learn all aspects of printing from prepress to press to post-press.
  • Study subjects like printing materials and equipment, printing and reproductive processes (flexography, lithography, and screen printing), photography, and digital imaging and imaging technology.
  • Ball State's classrooms and labs are equipped with much of the same computer technology, software, and printing equipment currently used in the industry.
  • Students in the graphic arts management program are required to complete a a minor in business administration to gain an understanding of business operations.
  • Students are also encouraged to complete an internship to gain field experience.
Admission Requirements & Selection

Admission Criteria

  • Strength of your high school curriculum (including your senior year)
  • Successful completion of four years of English; three years of college preparatory mathematics (Algebra I, Algebra II, and geometry); three years of science (two with lab); and three years of social studies. Foreign language study is strongly recommended but not required
  • Performance as measured by grades in the above courses or by GED scores. Ball State uses an academic GPA on a 4.0 scale based only on college prep and academic course work completed
  • Curricular patterns or grade trends in your academic courses
  • Your SAT or ACT scores
  • Participation in extracurricular activities such as sports, performing groups, student government, student publications, civic, and charitable organizations, etc.
