UoH network of contacts is international in reach, both through the design team which includes art directors and curators and an extensive network of graduates in design and advertising agencies, fashion houses and other related industries. Some students secure placements abroad. There is also support for students in setting up their own companies. Some placements are salaried and tuition fees are not payable during your sandwich year.

  • Placements: The optional 12 month paid placement provides a fantastic boost to your future career. It provides a nurturing and ambitious workplace where you can learn and use additional skills. Our dedicated placement staff are continually finding positions locally, nationally and abroad. Recent positions include: Kirklees Council, University of Huddersfield, Astra Zeneca, EA Games, HBOS, BAE Systems, Microsoft and EUI in Florence. Students can also find their own position with companies, at home or abroad.

The focus of your work will be on individual projects but you will contribute to curated exhibitions and collaborative work in areas and genres such as documentary, realist and constructed photography, portraiture and landscape photography, contemporary art, fashion, editorial, advertising and architectural photography.

Career Opportunities

UoH graduates will find employment in a wide section of the market as freelance photographers, art directors, visual stylists and image makers or manipulators. This is also a suitable first degree for entry into teacher training.

Admission Requirements & Selection

Specific requirements for this course are normally one of the following:

  • Successful completion of a foundation course in Art and Design
  • 280 points gained at GCE awards or Advanced Vocational Certificate of Education (AVCE) A level or equivalent.
  • An EdExcel/BTEC National Diploma with a distinction and merits in a relevant subject.
  • In addition to the above, strong emphasis will be placed on the quality of your portfolio and a satisfactory interview.
  • Other suitable experience or qualifications will be considered.
