This course is a broad-based interdisciplinary arts and design programme and is suitable if you value the creative inspiration provided by this context. You’ll obtain the fundamental knowledge and skills required to develop a unique and personal portfolio which responds to the current demands of a multidisciplinary workplace/practice.

The holistic nature of the course and the freedom it brings enable you to nurture creative potential through personal studio practice. You’ll have the opportunity to increase specialisation in areas of art and design which are of particular interest to you. Our designated workshops and in-house facilities support the exploration of research ideas, development and outcomes and cover ceramics, sculpture, printmaking, wet photography, textiles and IT/graphic design.

Career Opportunities

The integration of professional practice facilitates direct employment in the creative industries, as a practising artist, designer or craftsperson, or continuation of study at higher levels (MA, PGCE), ongoing professional development and life-long learning. This course is also an excellent undergraduate programme if you wish to teach art and design.

Admission Requirements & Selection

UoH welcomes students of any age. Those with formal qualifications would normally be expected to have one of the following:

  • Successful completion of a foundation course in Art and Design. 
  • A minimum of 200 points gained in A levels including two 4 or 6-unit (A2) awards. 
  • A minimum of 200 points gained in Advanced Vocational Certificate of Education (AVCE) double awards. 
  • An EdExcel/BTEC National Diploma, with merits in a relevant subject. 
  • A National Certificate with Distinction in a relevant subject. 
  • A National Award with Distinction + 60 points. 
  • Other suitable experience or qualifications will be considered. 
  • All applicants will be invited to interview and will be expected to attend with a portfolio of work.

Year 1

Provides a thorough foundation in and experience of the significant features of the course. It is intended to introduce and develop basic skills, concepts and knowledge.
