This course provides you with a unique blend of design sensitivity and business insight leading to exciting and diverse career opportunities. The optional year-long work placement is highly recommended as it gives you great practical insight into fashion and textile buying and your potential career choices. By focusing on the business and management aspects of this innovative and progressive industry, you’ll experience the latest developments and opportunities. UoH will explain the links between design, manufacture and retailing of fashion and textiles, enabling you to understand the requirements for the successful operation of a fashion/textile business. You’ll also understand the importance of international sourcing of fashion and textile products.

  • Placements: You may choose to spend the third year of your course on a work placement either in the UK or overseas, or on a study abroad programme with one of our approved partner universities overseas.

Career Opportunities

The fashion and textile industry offers varied and interesting careers and you’ll be given career advice in the second year of the course. Our graduates are employed in positions such as buying, merchandising, range selecting and product development. Recent graduate employment destinations include head office positions within Next, Arcadia, Tesco and Hobbs.

Admission Requirements & Selection

UoH welcomes students of any age. Those with formal qualifications would normally be expected to have one of the following:

  • Successful completion of a foundation course in Art and Design.
  • 280 points gained at GCE awards or Advanced Vocational Certificate of Education (AVCE) A level or equivalent.
  • An EdExcel/BTEC National Diploma with a distinction and merits in a relevant subject.
  • Passes in GCSE Maths and English at grade C or above are also required.
  • In addition to the above, strong emphasis will be placed on the quality of your portfolio and a satisfactory interview.
