This course allows you to rigorously explore the demands of contemporary crafts design and in doing so enables you to develop your personal studio/workshop practice. You will obtain the fundamental knowledge and skills required to develop a unique and personal portfolio which responds to the market for contemporary crafts. The course will give you the opportunity to explore not only jewellery, ceramics and surface embellishment but also to extend your practice across the boundaries of these disciplines. You will have the opportunity to increase specialisation in areas which are of particular interest to you.

UoH designated workshops, studios and in-house facilities will support the exploration of your research and development and the production of final creative work.

Career Opportunities

The integration of professional practice facilitates direct employment in the creative industries, as a practising artist or craftsperson or a continuation of study at higher level (MA, PGCE), ongoing professional development and life-long learning. This course is also an excellent undergraduate programme if you wish to teach art and design.

Admission Requirements & Selection

UoH welcomes students of any age. Those with formal qualifications would normally be expected to have one of the following:

  • Successful completion of a foundation course in Art and Design.
  • A minimum of 200 points gained in A levels including two 4 or 6-unit (A2) awards.
  • A minimum of 200 points gained in Advanced Vocational Certificate of Education (AVCE) double awards.
  • An EdExcel/BTEC National Diploma with a distinction and merits in a relevant subject.
  • A National Certificate with Distinction in a relevant subject.
  • A National Award with Distinction + 60 points.
  • Other suitable experience or qualifications will be considered.
  • All applicants will be invited to interview and will be expected to attend with a portfolio of work.
