Southampton Solent University is a university of 17,000 students based in Southampton, United Kingdom. Its main campus is located on East Park Terrace near the city centre. It is a centre of applied research in design and advanced technology, maritime, fine art, history of collecting, film, media and cultural studies, political and international studies, law and a broad range of business disciplines. The university strives to work with local business and professional bodies to keep the qualifications it provides relevant and immediately useful upon graduation.
SSU offer their students a choice of courses ranging from foundation 'level zero' years that lead onto degree courses, to master's degrees and PhDs, plus a variety of professional and short courses. Since 1992 SSU awarded more than 100 research degrees.
School of Design
Design has played a hugely important role in the history and development of art and design education within Southampton. The Southampton School of Art, founded in 1855, offered courses in both the fine and commercial arts.

The Design staff are a highly qualified and experienced team of professionals, engaged in various research related activities, funded projects and exhibitions. They have a long-standing reputation for providing an enriching learning experience for all of students. students undertake research/study visits to museums, galleries, companies, agencies, and trips abroad to places like Amsterdam, Paris, New York and Milan. |
