
On this degree you will be able to experiment and establish your own approach to painting, sculpture and fine art, whilst appreciating its historical and contemporary context. You will learn specific skills within the disciplines of painting, sculpture, printmaking, live art, time-based media and the creative use of new technologies.SSU will help you to explore your own style, whilst underpinning your creativity with sound analytical qualities to support you as a practising artist. As well as working independently towards your unique body of studio work, you'll engage with others in critical argument, debate and research.

- 200 points from 6-unit or 12-unit awards or Foundation course pass (A Levels, AVCE, BTEC Nationals, and so on).
- You will normally be invited to a portfolio viewing and briefing and maybe formal interview.
Course Content
Year 1
Introduces you to a comprehensive range of disciplines, their historical foundations, and major concepts and themes associated with contemporary visual art practice. Units include:
- Critical Understanding of Practice

- Visual Research
- Visual Language
Year 2
Encourages you to begin to establish individual working methods and a greater understanding of current art discourses, both national and international. You also have the chance to participate in a European student exchange programme. Units include:
- Production Processes / Environment / Narratology, or Illustration options
- Contemporary Art Critique
- Skills Workshop 3
- Negotiated Study
- Critical Discourse 1
Year 3
Focuses on the production of an individual body of studio work and its presentation, as well as the submission of a discursive text. Units include:
- Art in Context / Sights: Sites, or Illustration options
- Critical Discourse 2
- Professional and Career Development
- Final Major Project
