This unique and highly creative course allows you to focus on fashion, whilst being able to present your innovative fashion ideas using graphic design methods. This blend works favourably in the fashion industry, and is reflected by versatility and employability upon graduation.

All fashion students have access to studio facilities, which include dedicated studio space for 2D and 3D design, pattern cutting, photography and IT.

Career Opportunities

Due to the broad nature of the course, students may aspire to a number of careers, such as fashion graphic design, styling, packaging/point of sale design, fashion magazine design, advertising, contemporary fashion illustration, garment/t-shirt/fabric print design.

Admission Requirements & Selection
  • 160 points from two 6-unit awards or equivalent, one of which must be in a relevant art and design discipline; or have undertaken a relevant Art and Design Foundation course.
  • You will normally be invited to a portfolio viewing and sometimes a formal interview
  • Qualifications equivalent to the above may also be considered

Course Content

Year 1

You will be encouraged to explore and develop your creative talent through research, critical review and investigation to develop your awareness of typographical styles used within fashion. You will also cover:

  • Fashion Styling
  • Visual Communication/Promotion
  • Design Research
  • Digital Photography
  • Garment Print Design
  • Magazine Layout and Design
  • Digital Fashion Illustration
  • Web Design

Year 2

Practical skills are developed further through project briefs, representation and promotion of fashion, focusing on the customer profile/market context. Unit content will include:

  • Fashion Photography
  • Visual Realisation
  • Design Research
  • Fashion Business/Marketing
  • Corporate/Brand Design
  • Brochure/Magazine Design
  • Fashion Illustration
  • Print Design through CAD
  • Industrial and professional networking will also be introduced, with opportunities to gain work experience encouraged.

Year 3

  • You will work independently and negotiate project outcomes according to career aspirations, culminating in a final project and dissertation. You are encouraged to enter high profile competitions during this year, many of which are linked to our involvement with Graduate Fashion Week. Industry liaison is supported, and as well as exhibiting at Graduate Fashion Week we hold an annual local fashion show that gains local and national press coverage.
