Sheridan’s film and television program, Media Arts, emphasizes the practical skills you need for a career in the film and television industry. Working in state-of-the-art studios with high-end digital cameras and sound equipment, you’ll collaborate on short film and television projects, learning every aspect of the media arts production process. You’ll play a variety of roles on different production crews, getting direct experience in Screenwriting, Producing, Directing, Camera and lighting, Editing, Sound and Digital special effects

Learn from the Pros: Media Arts courses at Sheridan are taught by professionals with years of film and television industry experience. You’ll work with 16mm film, standard and high-definition cameras, state-of-the-art editing and sound facilities, industry-standard software, and a digital TV studio and control room. You’ll also gain practical business skills such as pitching, fundraising and marketing.

A 12-week job placement during year 3 provides further experience and professional contacts. You’ll graduate with a complete film and television skill set, a polished demo reel, and a very competitive resume.

Opportunities for Further Study: After completing your Media Arts courses at Sheridan, you can continue your studies at York University in Toronto and work toward an Honours BFA degree.You can earn a Bachelor of Communications Degree with two semesters of study at Griffith University in Brisbane, Australia.

Courses and studio work are enhanced by frequent field trips to conferences, museums, galleries, and glass design studios. In addition, prominent visiting artists work with Sheridan students via on-campus workshops and lectures.You’ll graduate with an outstanding portfolio and the preparation you need for a career as a working glass artist.

Additional Costs: In addition to tuition, students can expect to spend to in the first academic year for the purchase of books, a laptop computer, a digital camera and an external hard drive (exact specifications will be made available to students approximately 2 months before the start of the fall semester). In the 2nd and 3rd academic years, students should expect to spend approximately to per year for production costs, depending on the project chosen.

Recent Sheridan Media Arts grads have worked for companies such as CTV, MTV, CBC, Technicolor, Maple Leafs and Raptors TV, CityTV, Sound Dogs, Crush, and Copperheart Entertainment.

Admission Requirements & Selection
  • Ontario Secondary School Diploma or equivalent, including One English (Grade 12 ENG4C or ENG4U) or Mature student status.
  • Applicant Selection: Eligible applicants will be selected on the basis of their previous academic achievement (the average of their six highest senior-level credits, including required courses) and their response to a résumé/questionnaire. There is an assessment fee required with the submission. Applicants who do not meet the admission requirements for this program will be assessed and advised individually and may be considered for other, related programs.
