
This course is professionally orientated and prepares you for design practice in the multi-disciplinary area of spatial design. The Interior Design and Exhibition and Retail Design courses share a common Year 1 and Year 2 approach. You’ll move towards an individual focus, or specialisation, in the final stages. Practical design project work is normally based on vocational topics and you’ll develop your skills, knowledge, understanding, approach and individual design philosophy. Some of the issues we cover include international culture and context, regeneration/renewal, environment/ sustainability, visual styling and branding, new technologies, and communication.

- Placements: The courses provide a strong vocational preparation to enable you to work within the national and international marketplace. This is actively supported by design based visits (both UK and overseas), an established (optional) sandwich placement year (in the UK and/or overseas) and involvement in live/sponsored projects and competitions.

There is an optional, highly recommended placement year in which you have the opportunity to apply your learning to the real world of design. This professional placement gives you the advantage of experience in a competitive job market. |
Specific requirements for this course are normally one of the following:
- Successful completion of a foundation course in Art and Design.
- 280 points gained at GCE awards or Advanced Vocational Certificate of Education (AVCE) A level or equivalent.
- An EdExcel/BTEC National Diploma with a distinction and merits in a relevant subject.
- In addition to the above, strong emphasis will be placed on the quality of your portfolio and a satisfactory interview.
- Other suitable experience or qualifications will be considered.
