This unique, highly creative course allows you to focus on fashion, whilst being able to present your ideas using digital photography. Such a blend works favourably in the fashion industry, and reflects versatility and employability upon graduation.

With fashion/photography professionals forming part of the teaching team, we maintain excellent industry links. The strong record of employment and work experience held by the Fashion programme ensures graduating students leave with industry relevant skills and knowledge. You will learn important aspects of fashion promotion and communication, and channel your design concepts through digital photography, forecasting, fashion styling and CAD. You'll also gain access to our high-spec studio facilities. These include dedicated studio space for 2D and 3D design, pattern cutting, production techniques, photographic studios, film and media production, IT, and CAD suites.

Career Opportunities

You'll be well equipped to fulfil a number of careers such as art direction for photo shoots, advertising consultant for fashion retailers, reportage photographer, assistant photographer, visual trend and image capture, reporting for forecasting companies or as a stylist for magazines and photographers.

Industrial Placements

You are encouraged to carry out work experience whenever possible. Students look for their own placements and guidance is often offered by the course team in finding these. Opportunities often come to students via the strong external links that the course team have with industry. These have led to placements such as: Trend Reporting for WGSN, Styling at FHM Magazine, Reporting for Daily Mail Fashion Desk, Design for Griffin Menswear, PR for Agent Provocateur, PR for Purple, PR in Saville Row, Design at Jenny Packham, Marketing Dept at Harvey Nichols, Visual Merchandising at Marks & Spencer, Design for Mudpie Design, Visual Merchandising at TopShop.

The team are currently extending links to provide more photography led work experience placements on this relatively new course. You may also undertake an optional work experience opportunity in the summer period between Year 2 and 3.

Admission Requirements & Selection
  • 160 points from two 6-unit awards or equivalent, one of which must be in a relevant art and design discipline; or have undertaken a relevant Art and Design Foundation course.
  • Qualifications equivalent to the above may also be considered
  • You will normally be invited to a portfolio viewing and sometimes a formal interview

Course Content

Year 1

You will develop creative fashion skills including researching and developing fashion trends, visual presentation, design development, learning about the fashion industry and the history of fashion. Alongside this you will develop your awareness of current photographic styles, fashion styling, digital photography methods and IT skills.

Year 2

Skills developed at Level 1 will be put into a fashion market context. Practical skills are developed through project briefs, representation and promotion of the product focusing on the customer profile/market context. Industrial and professional networking is introduced with work experience encouraged and supported.

Year 3

You will work independently and negotiate projects and outcomes according to your career aspirations, culminating in a final Project and Dissertation. Industry liaison is also encouraged and supported. You are encouraged to enter high profile competitions, many of which are linked to our involvement with Graduate Fashion Week.
