- Placements: An optional sandwich year can be taken after Year 2 in an industrial and/or educational establishment in the UK or abroad. For students wishing to maintain continuous study there is the opportunity for short term industrial placements.

University's facilities, both new and traditional, include excellent studio spaces and well equipped workshops and we welcome visiting professionals from industry to share their knowledge with you. UoH strongly recommends that you take the option of a placement year in industry. This year is invaluable as it builds confidence and also provides that vital element of relevant experience which is attractive to employers within the fashion design textiles industry. There are potential career opportunities as designer/makers, designer/pattern makers or in buying and sourcing.

Specific requirements for this course are normally one of the following:
- Successful completion of a foundation course in Art and Design.
- 280 points gained at GCE awards or Advanced Vocational Certificate of Education (AVCE) A level or equivalent.
- An EdExcel/BTEC National Diploma with a distinction and merits in a relevant subject.
- In addition to the above, strong emphasis will be placed on the quality of your portfolio and a satisfactory interview.
- Other suitable experience or qualifications will be considered.
Year 1
- You study a range of modules that provide a thorough foundation for all significant features of the course.
- Both Fashion Design and Visual Studies aim to develop your creative and perceptual skills, whilst Sample Development introduces you to pattern making, interpretation and the manufacture of fashion garments.
- Textiles introduces the vast opportunities available in fabric embellishment and manipulation for fashion.
Year 2
- You develop your skills and participate in projects with industry and in competitions. Sample Development is continued in greater depth including tailoring, draping on the stand and CAD/CAM systems. In Textiles you are encouraged to design and integrate embellished textile ideas for all your design projects.
Year 3 sandwich
- Optional Work Placement
Year 3 full-time/Year 4 sandwich
- You will be encouraged to develop your portfolio and embellishment ideas. We emphasise the production of a targeted fashion collection that encourages innovative and directional fashion design and textile embellishment.
